Wearing purple

It’s hardly unusual for me to wear purple (I have had people comment in the past when I haven’t been wearing anything purple), but today I made a particular point of it, after a friend asked everyone she knew to wear purple in memory of her daughter. I even found an ancient bottle of nail polish (it must be over 10 years old, as it’s the polish I wore for my wedding!) and painted my nails very inexpertly.

It’s not always easy to seize the day when you suffer from depression. Mostly the day feels slimy, or prickly, or otherwise unpleasant to the touch. But I couldn’t help thinking how I saw my friend only two weeks ago, and although her daughter had been ill for a long time neither of us had any inkling that the end was so close. And even when it feels like a tremendous effort I really should try to enjoy the things I have, because who knows how long I really have to do it?

    • Thanks, Susan. It’s my friend I feel desperately sad for – I can’t begin to imagine how dreadful this must be for her and the rest of her family.

  1. It’s a lovely outfit, but i’m sorry to hear the reason behind it. It must be a terrible time for your friend.
